Features

The BirPacs module enables the loading of DICOM series images into Analyze from a BirPacs server, and using DICOM Query and Retrieve functions to find and retrieve DICOM images into the BirPacs server. BirPacs can be configured as either a self contained system (BirPacs_S) including the server, or as a client/server system (BirPacs_CS), where a single BirPacs server supports multiple Analyze client workstations. Not all of the features present in the client/server system are available in the self contained system.

DICOM Communications for Analyze.

BIRPacs provides the communications necessary for Analyze to receive, query, retrieve, and send images to other DICOM entities in your network. It eliminates the need to separately store DICOM image files and sort them into volumes for loading into Analyze. The BIRPacs client in Analyze allows you to select patients, studies, or series, and load the series into Analyze directly as 3D images.

Image selection using Patient/Study/Series hierarchy.

The BIRPacs client window in Analyze provides a list of patients, or optionally, lists of all studies or series in the system. From any window list, the entire set of image series can be loaded into Analyze, or individual series can be selected and loaded.

Load series into Analyze as 3D volumes.

BIRPacs assumes that a series is a 3D volume for analysis, and selected unique series are loaded directly into Analyze as 3D volumes. BIRPacs eliminates the need to sort DICOM images into volume files.

Rapid access to DICOM header information.

From the series window, a double click returns the contents of a DICOM header from one of the image files, to review specific scan details that may be pertinant to the research underway. This avoids loading series which are not needed.

BIRPacs database and DICOM receiver independent of Analyze.

Once the BIRPacs server software is installed, it listens to the network for any DICOM image tranmissions directed to it, regardless of whether Analyze is running or not.

Custom database queries from BIRPacs database.

The BIRPacs client program allows you to define custom queries into the BIRPacs database, to select images or sets of images with specific parameters.

Multiple remote systems access.

The BIRPacs client alows you to configure multiple remote DICOM service providers to access for query/retrieve or send functions.

Restrained views of stored image sets.

The BIRPacs client allows you to restrict your view of all patients/studies/series to recent series, by scan data or received date, or only those images that have not yet been loaded into Analyze.

Configurable DICOM entity name and port number.

BIRPacs_S DICOM parameters are configurable from the BIRPacs client window. BIRPacs_CS supports multiple DICOM receivers, for which DICOM parameters are configurable from the server administration window.

Selection list sortable on any column.

BIRPacs selection window can be readily sorted on any column, and columns can be hidden for cleaner viewing.
